Exam and Cleaning

For all new or returning patients, this includes a dental exam, necessary X-rays, and professional cleaning to start your smile off right.

Comprehensive New Patient Exam

Your new patient exam typically begins with a review of your dental and medical history, along with any concerns or goals you would like to discuss. Your dentist will perform a comprehensive examination of your teeth, gums, bite, and surrounding oral tissues. We will look for signs of cavities, gum disease, worn or damaged teeth, existing dental work, and other oral health concerns.

Your first visit is an opportunity for us to get to know you, understand your dental needs and concerns, and establish a clear picture of your overall oral health. Our goal is to make your first appointment comfortable and thorough while creating a personalized plan to help you maintain a healthy smile.

Routine Dental Checkup for Returning patients

Regular dental checkups and cleanings (also known as "recalls") are an important part of maintaining a healthy smile. Even when your teeth feel perfectly fine, routine visits allow us to monitor changes in your oral health, identify potential concerns early, and help prevent small problems from becoming more complicated.

During your checkup, your dentist will examine your teeth, gums, bite, and existing dental work for any changes or concerns. We look for signs of cavities, gum disease, cracked or worn teeth, and other oral health conditions. Dental X-rays may be recommended periodically based on your individual needs, dental history, and risk factors.

Digital X-Rays & Diagnostic Records

Depending on your individual needs and dental history, digital X-rays may be taken to help us evaluate areas that cannot be seen during a visual examination, including between the teeth and around the roots and supporting bone. Additional records, such as photographs, may also be recommended when helpful for diagnosis and treatment planning.

Professional Dental Cleaning

Your dental cleaning focuses on removing plaque and hardened calculus or tartar that cannot always be removed effectively with brushing and flossing at home. Our dentists and/or hygienists will also assess the health of your gums, polish your teeth, and provide personalized advice to help you maintain good oral hygiene between visits. Fluoride treatment and polishing may also be recommended when appropriate.

Your Personalized Treatment Plan

After your examination, we will review our findings with you and answer any questions you may have. If treatment is recommended, we will explain your options and help you understand which concerns should be addressed first. Whether you are simply due for a routine checkup or have specific dental concerns, we want you to leave your first visit with a clear understanding of your oral health and a plan for moving forward.

How Often Should You Have a Checkup & Cleaning?

For many patients, a routine dental checkup and cleaning is recommended approximately every 6 months. However, the ideal frequency varies from person to person. Patients with excellent oral and gum health may be able to extend their visits to every 9 to 12 months, while those with a higher risk of cavities or gum disease may benefit from more frequent care. We will recommend a recall schedule based on your individual oral health needs.
